EV Home Charging – Quick Guide for Customers

You can apply to install an EV charging point at your Coastline home. Here’s what you need to know.

Can I install a charger?

Yes* — as long as you:

  • Get written permission from Coastline first

  • Use a qualified installer

  • Pay for the installation yourself

  • Follow all safety and legal requirements

*Flats/blocks are usually not suitable due to shared infrastructure and space constraints.

Before you apply

Please make sure you:

  1. Speak to a qualified EV installer

  2. Complete a National Grid EV Charging Application

  3. Send Coastline any paperwork about supply capacity or unlooping

  4. Check if you need planning permission (for example, listed buildings)

Where can it go?

  • On your own off‑street parking area

  • On‑street setups need extra permission from Cornwall Highways/Cornwall Council

  • Installations that damage features like external wall insulation won’t be allowed

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • All costs

  • Safe installation and maintenance

  • Following all regulations

  • Any reinstatement if you remove the charger

When you move out

If you installed the charger, you can:

  • Leave it, or

  • Remove it (but you must disconnect it safely and repair any damage)
Chargers that were part of the original property must stay.
